Recently at The Potter’s House in Dallas, TX, an elaborate tribute was given to First Lady Serita Jakes in honor of her birthday.
Bishop TD Jakes, the proud husband wants to make sure you get to see the gift he got for his lady love. The mega pastor shared an image of him and the missus gazing at the mega oil painting he gave her.
During the celebration, Jakes strutted onto the platform, sharing heartfelt words.
“Thirty-something years later, I have been to the White House over and over again, traveled around the world, seen crowds so big that I couldn’t even see the people way in the back, been written up in all types of magazines and papers, and all kinds of accolades and accomplishments, but what the world does not know is that I am everything I am because you love me.”
After the Céline Dion song he set up perfectly, “Because You Loved Me,” was performed by a vocalist, Jakes expounded more upon his thoughts and why he chose a specific kind of gift to express his love…all while Mrs. Jakes stood by, not yet sure what was waiting for her.
“Anything that’s really special, really important, really wonderful, really great, before there was Facebook, and Instagram, and Twitter and camera phones, Kodak cameras, if a person was a person of distinction in a class, you don’t take a snapshot of a queen…I told her several weeks ago, I said, ‘I got something for you for your birthday,’ and I said—and we always tease each other, give each other clues—so I said, ‘your clue is, this is something that you’ve never had, that you’ve never seen, that’s never been done for you.’ Can I show you?”
After removing the black fabric draping over it, Jakes revealed the oil painting of his wife and said, “A beautiful gift for a beautiful woman.”
Her face lit up with delight and tears flowed.
