I’m sure the news has circulated quite a bit about the Church of God In Christ 107th Holy Convocation’s ‘miracle.’ A Missouri man by the name of Andrew Caldwell or Marquis Jones, no one knows the true identity, has openly confessed that he is ‘no longer gay.’ Since the video hit the internet, it went viral and people began attacking him through social media. Caldwell is now requesting $50 Million from social media giant, Twitter, claiming that they have allowed their users to publicly bully him.
The way I see it, if you openly confess something, you have to be prepared for an open discussion about your confession whether you are or are not included in the conversation. This might be one of the silliest lawsuits for the simple fact that Twitter is a giant in the industry and 9 times out of 10, will win. When you have a company as large as the social media site, you can’t completely control ‘everything’ that goes on and people are entitled to their own opinion, which in this case might’ve been harmful to the feelings of another.
The NewsNerd reports that Andrew stated:
“The nasty things they say about me online are nothing but bullying plain and simple,” Jones stated. “I cannot believe they allow anyone to post these vial things online. No one knows my story or what I have gone through. They talked about my voice, my appearance, and even tried to deny my deliverance. They can say what they want, but I am redeemed and my bowtie is cute. My pride and self-worth have been shattered into a million pieces, and each one of those pieces deserve $50.”
Word has circulated that the man was indeed cured and is currently engaged to be married. He made a statement saying:
“I look forward to a new life with my soon-to-be-wife. We are planning to have 5 or 6 children,” stated Jones.
While requesting a monetary compensation, Caldwell is also demanding all negative comments to be removed along with a public apology, which 9 times out of 10 again, he’s not getting. The reports circulating the internet are a bit confusing because according to the statement by The News Nerd, the man is 32-years-old but in the video he is mentioned to be only 20 years of age. All at the same time he is claiming to be in college, studying medicine. As it is not the place of Gospelbreak to make any assumptions or conclusions, either the reports are off, or this Andrew/Marquis is off.
At the end of the day, the best thing we can do as Christians and human beings is show compassion and love one another. Although this situation seems a bit misleading and messy, it is our job to continue to keep the church and its members, as well as the rest of the world, in prayer. Whatever it is that this young man is going through is in desperate need of prayer and not judgment because that’s not our job! Always keep in mind that the same grace that was shed for us, is the same grace that needs to be extended to another!
Oh yes! Before I forget, the Pastor mentioned “if you can’t praise God with him, you’re an unbeliever.” I just feel, personally, if my spirit doesn’t feel right, why should I praise with him? Would my praise be authentic if I’m just praising because he claims to be ‘delivered?’ I just think we, as ‘church folk,’ make unnecessary statements that might offend someone else. Just because I’m not praising with him doesn’t mean I’m happy, it just means I’m not as moved (better yet convinced) as everyone else. If I’m going to be praising God, it’s going to be on my own personal relationship, not because I’ll be considered an ‘unbeliever’ if I don’t. Besides, deliverance doesn’t happen overnight, in my opinion.
