An Anglican bishop has said that the Church of England has been prompted to issue a document urging Christians to vote because of Russell Brand’s criticism of the political system. The Bishop of Norwich said he realized the ‘profound’ effect the celebrity had when he told people not to get involved in politics. Rt Revd Graham James told a press conference at the launch of a Church letter urging Christians to vote, that Bishops had a duty to “counter” the comedian.
Mr Brand previously said: “Don’t bother voting. Stop voting, stop pretending, wake up, be in reality now. Why vote? We know it’s not going to make any difference”.
“While one may think that the bishops of the Church of England don’t quite have the sex appeal of Russell Brand, we think that we should counter it.”
