The fight that everyone had been waiting for between Manny Pacquiao and money man, Floyd Mayweather Jr. took place Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This highly anticipated fight between the top two dominant welterweights of the past decade, quieted critics who believed that money man, Mayweather was trying to avoid stepping in the ring with defending champ, Manny Pacquiao, 36 year old fighter from the Philippines.
Though Mayweather was deemed victorious in the unanimous decision, fans at the MGM booed the three judges, who gave Mayweather the wider margin in the 12 round fight. Pacquiao believed he won the fight, claiming that Mayweather “did nothing” and was mainly running away throughout the fight. The judges however disagreed. According to official fight statistics, Pacquiao landed double-digit punch totals just three times over the course of 12 rounds.
While fans demand a rematch, Mayweather (48-0) now moves on to the final fight the contract he signed back in 2013. “My last fight is in September, then it’s time for me to hang it up,” he said. “I’m almost 40 years old. I’ve been in the sport 19 years, I’ve been world champion 18 years. I’m truly thankful and I’m blessed.”
