Nicki Minaj won the award for Best Hip-Hop Video at the MTV Video Music Awards 2015. In her acceptance speech she randomly took a second to thank her Pastor Lydia Sloley (pictured below). Immediately following what viewers probably thought would have been an appropriate speech, Ms. Minaj abruptly went left and called out pop artist Miley Cyrus for an interview Cyrus gave to the New York Post late last week, about the VMA nominations implying that Nicki was not a kind person, referencing her tweets to Taylor Swift.
Miley said to Post:
“But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it … What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love.”
Live during her speech Nicki responded saying,
“You know who I want to thank tonight? My pastor, I love you so much… And now, back to this —– that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley what’s good?!”
MTV producers quickly cut off Nicki’s mic while Miley, seemingly unaware of having a feature appearance in Nicki’s speech, tried to keep it together and professional as she respectfully responded, moving right along with the order of events.
